Michelle Has Had Enough

A frank and courageous post by a woman who takes a lot of shit from racist liberals. I disagree with her a fair amount, but she's incredibly intelligent, and she works tirelessly, acting as a sort of right-wing informational clearinghouse. And in the areas where we disagree, she helps me to sharpen my thinking. Beyond that, of course, I get a lot of traffic just by virtue of being on her blogroll.

I wish people would leave everyone's families alone. I voted for Clinton in 1992, and I remember being thrilled that he and his wife leaned on the entertainment industry to keep Chelsea out of the spotlight. Was anyone ever so naive?—I truly thought that a precedent would be set, and First Families would at long last get some privacy.

Of course, when they left the White House, the leaning stopped—and it was open season on families once more. But by then I'd seen what was going on, and had started voting with the GOP.

Just from the shit I get here I can't even imagine what it would be like to be in Michelle's shoes. It really pisses people off when a woman is both attractive and intelligent. Particularly if she disagrees with them. (And, no—I will not break it down by gender: I've seen vicious/sexist stuff from men and women. There's always a temptation to think women will know better, but that only works when and if they want to.)

UPDATE: Audio of the straw that broke the camel's back, over at Ed Cone. I'm still amused at the idea that Malkin's husband writes her columns. He must, dammit! Chicks can't write!

The reason this woman was given crap had nothing to do with her race, but being a GOP sell-out to her race. DUH!, but I wouldn't figure a conservative would see it that way.

Take it from another smart attractive woman of a other than white race....the spin you and she put on this was far to obvious.

As a woman, regardless of your race, you too are a sellout...sending women back to the days of dark alleys, coat hangars and under a man's thumb.

I've never advocated dark alleys, coat hangers, OR being under a man's thumb. Have you, by the way, read one post of mine on the subject of abortion? How do you know what I think?

And if I've sold out, why didn't I ever get any money for it? I mean, I thought that was the whole point of selling out--getting a little dough-re-mi . . .?

And--DUH--what is it that you'd like Ms. Malkin to believe? What would be an acceptable philosophy for her to advocate? And how exactly is it, BTW, that she's making life more difficult for Filipinos? Just curious.

The reason this woman was given crap had nothing to do with her race, but being a GOP sell-out to her race.

Eh?

So the racial slurs had nothing to do with race, but were purely political?

In other words, it's okay to use racial slurs when your target is a conservative?

What you're saying, then, is it's not racism if a Democrat does it?

That is possibly the most mind-bogglingly hypocritical pile of bullshit I have ever heard since, oh, the last time I heard the same bullshit from another Democrat.

Posted by: Pixy Misa at November 20, 2005 11:31 PM

See, Pixy--it isn't racism if you're only doing it to enforce the single permissible political philosophy for blacks/Latinos/women/Asians/etc.

If women and minorities would behave correctly--that is, vote Democratic and STFU about any libertarian thoughts they might have--there'd be no racist/sexist remarks.

So, you see, they aren't really racist or sexist. The slurs are only being used to "encourage" the minority/female code of conduct promoted by their betters.

Everyone who's been to school knows civilization is only a few molecules thick.

The more effective you become at leading and informing public opinion, the more attacks you will suffer. Consider it a compliment. Let the Left be seen in all its 'glory.'

Yep. I was thinking that Michelle should be proud of the fact that they hate her so much. She must be right, or they wouldn't be so angry :)

Posted by: caltechgirl at November 21, 2005 10:08 AM

Still--if you've read some of the stuff they send, it's somewhat beyond the usual "slut," "whore" sorts of things. There's a lot of explicit material about just what sort of "whore"/"gook" she must be.

It's different from what I get in both quantity and quality. My hat goes off to her for putting up with it, in addition to everything else she does.

I'm the talk show host that alledgedly "broke the camel's back" on Friday. Before you all irrationally and falsely accuse anyone who dares ask a question of racism, sexism, and any other ism... get this straight: We had a good 20 minute segment with Michelle Malkin. I decided I wouldn't be doing my job if I IGNORED what was out here in the blogosphere. She answered my non-accusatory mentioning of the fact that some websites had alledged her husband had been writing her material very well, with passion. Surely you must realize that many things not reported by the mainstream media, including plaguerism by famous people... have been first reported by bloggers. Why should Michelle Malkin not be subject to the same kind of questioning other major media figures must endure?

I truly thought we'd had a good segment with her, spirited and questioning of her thesis that liberals are, by defintion, uglier and nastier than conservatives, and less tolerant too. I never mentioned her husband by name, nor brought up his religion (I am Jewish too, and have absolutely no reason to go there....) or "attacked" him.

No one has an inherent right to not squirm a bit when they go on a talk show; Michelle was treated absolutely with courtesy and fairness.
She got her message out loud and clear to the listeners; that she would later that day attack me in print is just plain bad manners.
She said on the air she was glad I asked the question. Apparently that was somewhat less than truthful.

Brad, thanks for posting. I don't think your question itself was out of place, but the claims of Michelle's enemies - let's call them what they are - that underlie the question certainly are.

Every so often I get a reader who thinks that I am female and conservative, when I am neither, and the attacks I sometimes get are utterly vile. (I've had three such attacks, all from the same person, since yesterday, but that's unusual.)

Michelle gets that every single day, with racial slurs to top it off. Still she should distinguish between your question and the baseless accusations that you asked about.

Brad, thanks for sharing your feelings with us. I don't think it was at all out of place that you asked about the issue. I do feel that the original question has a sexist/racist assumption at its core.

I agree with Pixy: your question was fair enough. You would have been remiss not to ask it, if the issue was being discussed over the web.

About Joy W. McCann: I've been interviewed for Le Monde and mentioned on Fox News. I once did a segment for CNN on "Women and Guns," and this blog is periodically featured on the New York Times' blog list. My writing here has been quoted in California Lawyer. I've appeared on The Glenn and Helen Show. Oh—and Tammy Bruce once bought me breakfast.
My writing has appeared in
The Noise, Handguns, Sports Afield, The American Spectator, and (it's a long story) L.A. Parent. This is my main blog, though I'm also an alumnus of Dean's World, and I help out on the weekends at Right Wing News.
My political philosophy is quite simple: I'm a classical liberal. In our Orwellian times, that makes me a conservative, though one of a decidedly libertarian bent.
