Sweetest Doggie in the Whole World!

Oh, Mandy! When you came and you gave without taking . . .
Although you did attempt to chew most of the furniture up with your teeth . . .

Tell me it's displaying in browsers other than Safari . . .

Posted by: Attila Girl at August 19, 2008 04:45 PM

Not in k-meleon (Mozilla rendering code). I think it's the space after "Mandy2" in the filename that's screwing things up.

More: Tried pasting the URL in the address box, and got:
Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/1.3.41 Server at Port 80

(The browser escaped the space as "%20")

Not in IE 7. Nor Firefox.
I'm not sure about the psychic network.

Start from scratch one more time. Delete what had come before--except for the text.

Posted by: Darrell at August 19, 2008 05:08 PM

Okay, now the filename has changed, but it still contains a space ("Mandy2 18%-1.jpg") and it still doesn't display.

Posted by: Old Grouch at August 19, 2008 05:10 PM

Opera refuses to do anything with it also. I think you need a new browser - at least one that plays well with all the others :)

Try renaming it the way digital cameras usually do or something - those usually display on anything.

Posted by: Gregory at August 19, 2008 05:18 PM

It works!
On Firefox!!
And on IE 7!!!!!

Posted by: Darrell at August 19, 2008 05:25 PM

I stuck with the 18% version, but I took out the space, and added the ".jpg" back in. Worked like a charm.

Look at that little face! Look at that silky fur! Look at her! I could just pet her all day long.

Posted by: Attila Girl at August 19, 2008 05:25 PM

That last rename got it!

Posted by: Old Grouch at August 19, 2008 05:26 PM

"Look at that little face! Look at that silky fur! Look at her! I could just pet her all day long."

Is there any money in that?
Maybe Nancy P can come up with a program.

"Pet me on the head and I'll drool in your lap!"

Posted by: Old Grouch at August 19, 2008 06:06 PM

Otherwise know as "The Omnibus Human/Animal Companion Act of 2008."

Posted by: Darrell at August 19, 2008 07:23 PM

No, but seriously: isn't she the cutest, sweetest doggie in the whole wide world?

(Correct answer: "yes.")

Posted by: Attila Girl at August 19, 2008 08:32 PM

Oh yes.
And such a great picture too!

Posted by: Darrell at August 19, 2008 08:38 PM

I especially like the way the re-sizing was performed. And is that just a bit of background-softening? A masterstroke!

Posted by: Attila Girl at August 19, 2008 09:15 PM

Wait, is that a garter belt I'm seeing in the background?

She likes to be petted just around the muzzle, and of course on the tummy. Though she's not always in the mood to play the "submissive" and let us pet the stomach in question very easily--she has to be very relaxed for that. We've learned that even if she's standing, she likes the tummy rubbed. That might even relax her enough for her to lie down so we can do it properly. But she never lies on her back in full submissive posture: Mandy don't play that.

When I'm at my mom's house she tends to carefully position herself right between us. If we're in different rooms she'll find a hallway where our exit routes can be watched so her humans don't sneak away. But if I spend the night, I get the dog because she can sleep in my mom's bed any old time. This is why it is a mistake for me to curl up in the loveseat--I'm short enough to sleep there if it's just me, but by the time Mandy joins me I tend to run out of room unless I put my legs over the curled-up ball of pit bull. Which sort of works.

But it's smarter for me to just start out on an actual couch. More room that way.

Also, if she's not in the mood to "understand" the word "no," sometimes we can get somewhere with "ouch." She knows that once in a while she'll knock one of her humans over, or at least its tea/coffee/beer, so "ouch" is a term she understands: she's been an overexuberant dog, and we'll have the bruises the next day to prove it . . .

Oh, how I love that sweet little puppy. Though arguably she's a handful.

Posted by: Attila Girl at August 19, 2008 09:25 PM

Yes, a bit. The kind they do for Rosie when she appears in Maxim.

Posted by: Darrell at August 19, 2008 09:30 PM

Right, DC--you're more into felines, too. Felines are nice, though the hypo-allergenic ones are really expensive . . . But I'll bet they are just as pettable.

About Joy W. McCann: I've been interviewed for Le Monde and mentioned on Fox News. I once did a segment for CNN on "Women and Guns," and this blog is periodically featured on the New York Times' blog list. My writing here has been quoted in California Lawyer. I've appeared on The Glenn and Helen Show. Oh—and Tammy Bruce once bought me breakfast.
My writing has appeared in

My political philosophy is quite simple: I'm a classical liberal. In our Orwellian times, that makes me a conservative, though one of a decidedly libertarian bent.
