Sean's Thought Experiment.

What if it were Jindal instead of Palin?

Well, then—people would still question his experience. But I doubt they'd be all over his family life and religious beliefs in quite the same way.

The experience argument wasn't sexist; sexist was the way she was attacked for being so "stupid" as to have a child with Down syndrome, and such a "bad mother" that her daughter got pregnant a bit ahead of her wedding day.

Questioning Palin's experience wasn't the sexist element; it was the part that was merely factually wrong (depending, of course, on how heavily one weighs executive experience, which is the subjective aspect). It was bringing her family life into things, holding her responsible for her daughter's misstep, suggesting that she should be placing her family ahead of the nation's best interest, etc. that were exercises in sexism.

Then, when we used the word, we were told blithely that we aren't qualified to use it; only the Left knows what it is.

What contributes to your implication that, if Bristol and/or the sperm donor (I can't remember his name at the moment and don't feel like googling while posing this incredibly off-the-point yet insightful, pithy and [what do the kids call it?] genius-laden query) had any say in the matter, that there would be any thought/execution of a wedding day? Now for the really good one: to what extent (well, I had to ya' know) was there any thought, by Bristol or what's his name, of a wedding prior to, during and/or after the fornicating and before the realization that not abstaining and not practicing contraception (yes, I know, contraceptive practices are not 100% effective and, granted, that is a perfectly rational reason for not engaging in such practices) may have consequences?

"might have consequences." Thought you'd want to know.

What I've read in the mainstream media is that the two were engaged prior to the conception of the little fetus, and that everyone in Wasilla knew that Bristol and Levi were engaged. Given how detail-oriented the media have been about finding out any possible dirt on Sarah or her teenaged daughter, I think we would have heard that the engagement did NOT pre-date the conception, if that were indeed the case.

Reputable sources also have it that Governor Palin encouraged the young couple to get married before the news got out, or before the girl started showing. Needless to say, she was not successful in this.

Thanks for the grammar correction.

Yes, those terrible jounalists! Why, they are just awful people. Whoever told them that it was their job to investigate and report?

Posted by: Hog Beatty at September 8, 2008 08:22 PM

Pity they only dig up dirt on RepubliKKKans, though. Surely, the dirt-digging can be bi-partisan? Or perhaps, and here's a really novel idea, left to trash tabloids such as, oh, I dunno, The National Enquirer?

As it is, it's a sad fact that NE is closer to proper investigative journalism, and the MSM to trashy tabloids.

Plus, Attila, I'm surprised you could parse the 1st commenter's sentence structure. My syntax checker gave up about 1/3 way through.

He's okay; he's a drummer, not a writer.

About Joy W. McCann: I've been interviewed for Le Monde and mentioned on Fox News. I once did a segment for CNN on "Women and Guns," and this blog is periodically featured on the New York Times' blog list. My writing here has been quoted in California Lawyer. I've appeared on The Glenn and Helen Show. Oh—and Tammy Bruce once bought me breakfast.
My writing has appeared in
The Noise, Handguns, Sports Afield, The American Spectator, and (it's a long story) L.A. Parent. This is my main blog, though I'm also an alumnus of Dean's World, and I help out on the weekends at Right Wing News.
My political philosophy is quite simple: I'm a classical liberal. In our Orwellian times, that makes me a conservative, though one of a decidedly libertarian bent.
