Sexism Behind Every Bush . . .
Oh, please. Stop!
Yes: Hillary Clinton experienced sexism in the race for the Democratic nomination.
Yes: Sarah Palin experienced sexism (of a particularly vicious type) in the weeks after McCain named her as his running mate.
But: not every attack on Palin is a result of sexism; mostly, right now, it's driven by blind fear. If she were a young, good-looking fresh-faced man of any race (say, JFK), they'd still be looking into every expenditure, every per diem, every banned-book-that-wasn't-banned.
They tried to focus on biology, on the fact that she's either too feminine, or too masculine, or a tomboy, or an airhead, or whatever. Now it's just scattergun time, because the perception is that she's breathed new life into whathisface's—I mean, McCain's—campaign.
Carly: the Saturday Night Live skit was brilliant. The comedy wasn't about Sarah Palin, either. It was about Hillary Clinton, and feminine archetypes (call 'em stereotypes if you like).
Tina Fey's Sarah Palin impression rested on the accent, and on making Palin into a bubblehead. But Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton got to do the heavy lifting, as she always does. Sure: she got to play the spurned, jealous woman. But she also got to play that person who is being goaded by a series of circumstances right to the edge of losing her temper, and barely keeping it under control. It was a thing of beauty.
I see dinosaurs today--Garry Trudeau, SNL, and the rest of the lyin' left 'comedy' propaganda wing.
You need truth to craft an effective parody. I see none. What's next? Al Gore doing differential calculus on the telestrator? He couldn't, but Sarah can wipe the floor with him in any standarized test.
It's not sexism to ask her tough questions.
It would be sexism to hold her to a different standard than a man. Maybe it's sexism to hold her to a different standard than a man on women's issues. I'm not sure.
But if it's true, as it's being claimed today (and I won't see all the proof is in, but it looks like they may nail it down in the next day or two), that under Palin's tenure as mayor, women were charged for their rape kits, well, that seems to me to be more grotesque and inhumane under a female mayor than under a male.

If the two Democratic candidates had EVEN been mayor of a small town in their illustrious careers, you might have found such cost reimbursement on the books in their towns too--it is very common. Crime victims get sent ambulance bills in big cities , like Chicago, too. Now you lying leftists just have to make sure the two sexual assaults that happened over her two terms as mayor were actually rapes by violating the privacy of the victims once again--and that tape kits were taken and that they were charged for them and that they actually made payment. Or just make up something like you've done so far.
Joe Biden could have been president of his hair club. Secretary too and Sargent-at-arms. But he didn't vote. A lesson for all.
Actually, this is easily checked: we just find out what standard practices are.
I am a little bit concerned, however, that people are going over both her expense reports and her private life with a fine-tooth comb in a way that I've never seen a man have to endure. A TANNING BED? What if it were a man who had a sailboat? Please!
She saved the Alaskan taxpayers millions, and they're going over her per diems--ones she was entitled to--as if they were criminal. Meanwhile, Gore and Edwards get no scrutiny for the mansions they live in . . . it's whacked.

About Joy W. McCann: I've been interviewed for Le Monde and mentioned on Fox News. I once did a segment for CNN on "Women and Guns," and this blog is periodically featured on the New York Times' blog list. My writing here has been quoted in California Lawyer. I've appeared on The Glenn and Helen Show. Oh—and Tammy Bruce once bought me breakfast.
My writing has appeared in The Noise, Handguns, Sports Afield, The American Spectator, and (it's a long story) L.A. Parent. This is my main blog, though I'm also an alumnus of Dean's World, and I help out on the weekends at Right Wing News.
My political philosophy is quite simple: I'm a classical liberal. In our Orwellian times, that makes me a conservative, though one of a decidedly libertarian bent.
